What is a STEM lab for schools?
A STEM lab is a space where students learn science, technology, engineering and maths by doing. It can be a science and maths lab, with hands-on models that show principles such as levers, light and magnetism, or a lab where students build and code robots, invent, or work with AI. Anylan Foundation sets up both kinds in government schools in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, with teacher training and support, funded through CSR.

STEM labs for schools: common questions
What is a STEM lab for schools?
A STEM lab is a space where students learn science, technology, engineering and maths by doing. It can be a science and maths lab, with hands-on models that show principles such as levers, light and magnetism, or a lab where students build and code robots, invent, or work with AI. Anylan Foundation sets up both kinds in government schools in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, with teacher training and support.
Which STEM lab is best for a government school?
It depends on the grades and the goal. To make science and maths lessons hands-on, start with a Science & Maths Lab. For coding and robotics from Grade 3, start with the Robotics & AI Lab. For inventing and design thinking from Grade 6, choose the Innovation & Tinkering Lab. For AI, choose the AI Lab for Schools. Schools that already have an Atal Tinkering Lab can get ATL support instead of a new lab.
What equipment does a school STEM lab need?
Equipment for the chosen subject, such as science and maths models and experiment kits, robotics kits, electronics and sensors, or fabrication tools, plus devices for coding: tablets, Raspberry Pi computers or Windows PCs, including ones the school already has. Our labs also need storage and a classroom, not a separate building.
What is the difference between a STEM lab and an Atal Tinkering Lab?
A STEM lab is any lab where students learn science and technology hands-on. An Atal Tinkering Lab is a specific type of STEM lab set up under the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog. Anylan Foundation's Innovation & Tinkering Lab is built to the Atal Tinkering Lab framework.
Is the Science & Maths Lab only for CBSE schools?
No. Most of the schools we work with follow the Madhya Pradesh or Maharashtra state board. The activities cover the core science and maths concepts common to Indian school syllabi, including NCERT and the state boards, so the lab suits any school. CBSE schools can use it as their composite science lab.
What is a composite science lab?
A composite science lab is a single, fully equipped laboratory for physics, chemistry and biology. CBSE's Affiliation Bye-Laws require one in secondary schools, at least 9 m by 6 m. Anylan Foundation's Science & Maths Lab follows the same pattern for state-board and CBSE schools alike, and adds maths and geometry aids.
Can CSR funds be used to set up a STEM lab in a government school?
Yes. Promoting education is listed under Schedule VII (ii) of the Companies Act, 2013. Anylan Foundation is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to implement CSR projects (CSR-1: CSR00096762).
Does a school STEM lab need the internet?
No. Our coding tools run offline on tablets, Raspberry Pi or Windows computers, and student work stays on the school's own devices.
How much does a STEM lab for a school cost?
It depends on the type of lab, the number of schools and the support term of one, two or three years. Share your budget and region and we'll send a quote. For schools that already have an Atal Tinkering Lab, an on-site resource person covering up to five schools costs ₹55,000–60,000 a month.
